While assigned to field training with another officer, we were dispatched to a call regarding a suicidal female subject threatening to jump from a parking garage. Upon arrival, my training officer and I proceeded to the top level of the structure, where the subject was reported to be. I located the individual standing near the edge, visibly distressed and appearing as though she intended to jump. I immediately engaged her verbally in an effort to de-escalate the situation. As I approached, I was able to safely secure her before she was able to harm herself. The subject was then safely escorted away from the edge and turned over to emergency medical personnel for further evaluation and care.
