Serves as “Acting Battalion Chief” in absence of Battalion Chief as needed. Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff, which may include processing employee concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, disciplining, and completing employee performance appraisals. Assists in coordinating and/or conducting training activities. Assists in planning and scheduling daily work activities; coordinates, prioritizes, and assigns work; monitors status of work in progress and inspects completed work; consults with assigned staff, assists with complex/problem situations, and provides technical expertise. Ensures compliance with all applicable codes, laws, rules, regulations, protocols, standards, policies and procedures; ensures adherence to established safety procedures; monitors work environment and use of safety equipment to ensure safety of employees and other individual; initiates any actions necessary to correct deviations or violations. Coordinates staffing and work schedules for fire/EMS stations; develops work schedules to ensure adequate coverage; adjusts shift schedules and assigns alternate coverage as needed.
