Summary

I am a natural leader who engages students from K-12th grade and my colleagues in away that enlivens their life and learning experiences through collaboration, SEI, partner/group work, and immediate feedback (including small group and one-on-one check-ins). Every interaction is an opportunity to learn and grow.. Through the years, I have developed a hands-on and discussion/dialogue-based approach to teaching multiple subjects from art to science and social studies and Spanish). I focus on inspiring students to make connections across the established curriculum, their lives, and culture. My personal teaching philosophy is experiential and project-based/themed-based. I have also mentored and tutored children with Autism; conducting play therapy. I have also mentored High school student senior projects and led teen youth groups to persevere with grit and rigor during (team building activities including hiking in the mountains of Hawaii and Colorado and generally supporting young adults in life skills both athletically and socio-emotionally. I am passionate about guiding all students to better their understanding, improve upon their skills, and keep them moving forward. I see school and learning as an adventure where the learning process, (including mistakes), can be honored and celebrated. I adhere to positive discipline practices in the classroom and allow my classroom management to be informed and guided by restorative justice practices.

  • 5th grade general education classroom: FCPS Region 5. Adhered to established Math, Language arts, Science, and Social Studies district-adopted and mandated curriculum through studying the teacher guides, collaborating with the grade team, my school site mentor, and my district teaching coach. Attended once a month teacher training sessions with other teachers new to the district and or grade level assigned to. Creatively developed tangible lesson plans together with my on site grade level teacher-mentor., hosted intervention groups for Math and reading. I also held class meetings,, developed partner work and group work, and together with my class unpacked the components of the district’s Portrait of a Graduate qualities that lead to student and life success. Engaged in regular parent communication on students responsibilities and upcoming events. Volunteered coached Girls on the Run after school running program (grades 4-6) while also mentoring the high school volunteers and participated in various parent engagement activities including Literacy night, and parent-teacher conferences.
