  • A good working knowledge of the rectangular and metes & bounds systems of survey, operational skill in the operation of total stations plus the practical applications on instruments, also the ability to perform calculations pertinent to astronomical observations critical in carrying forth a survey line, and the skills and ability to work as a member of a team
  • Office responsibilities include researching official survey records in the Eastern States office required by field surveyors
  • Maintaining technical and administrative files in accordance with established procedures for easy access and workability, includes creating and maintaining Group Files, survey group database, plat filing folders including ES number assignment, Federal Register Notice preparation and notification letters to all interested parties prior to the official filing of newly approved survey plats
  • Retrieving plats, notes and available supporting documents for examination by the general public, as well as employees' of the Bureau and other governmental agencies and prepares copies as requested
  • Preparing responses and answers to inquiries regarding surveys in person, by phone or by letter
  • Also received experience scanning and indexing ES's duplicate original survey records and the Secretary of the Interior's duplicate original survey prior to filing
  • Limited experience in the indexing of GLO records
  • Assisting in the execution of Cadastral surveys and resurveys of public lands
  • Applying knowledge of field surveying methods, techniques and instruments in the measurement and location of lines, evaluate area angles, points and contours of the earth's surface; operate and maintain cutting to clear and blaze survey lines
  • In the course of carrying out said duties the physical work includes digging holes, setting monuments and building mounds to ensure the monument's longevity
  • Also gained operational knowledge of off-road all terrain vehicles
