I go from pre-k classroom to pre-k classroom helping my SPED students. I help the Teachers gather data, work on potty training, working number recognition, name recognition, working on seating with the class for circle time, small groups, large groups and play skills. I also help with speech. I am currently working with a one on one that needs help with some walking, eating, not putting things in his mouth, diapering, playing with other classmates, name recognition and so much more. I also help get kids from cars and bus as well as help take them to there cars and buses at the end of the day.
In pre-k I would work on kindergarten readiness like circle time be the days of the week, months of the year, numbers, shapes, and colors. As well as some independent skills since I had more kids that still did not do many things for themselves but had a parent do it for them. I would also place there food baskets on the floor for the kids to put there food in when they came to school each morning. I would clean the tables after breakfast, lunch and snack. I would also help, when needed, with potty time. I also had to teach the kids in the pool, everyday, about pool safety and leaning how to swim. At nap time I would sit with the ones that needed help getting to sleep and then deep cleaning the classroom once they was asleep. I would sweep the floors, deep clean the bathroom, if I had any dishes I would wash them. When the kids got up from nap I would clean the the cots and start laundry. I would also clean the food baskets then I would play with the kids till it was my time to go.
When I came back to Community Child care I worked in the 2s and 3s room. I would help with breakfast by setting up the tables for the children and cleaning the tables once done. At potty time I would with changing pull ups and potty training. At circle time I would sit with the kids on the carpet and help with the different topics. For outside time I would play the kids or do different outside leaning activity's. At lunch time I would set up the tables and place the food, once the kids was done eating I would start to clean up the floors and tables. Nap time I would sit with the kids till they was asleep and then start the room deep clean. I would clean the bathroom, mop the floors and gather the trash. Shortly after returning I was moved to the pre-k room till I left the center.
I worked the seconded shift and on many of nights the night shift. I would give out dinner and snacks. I would clean the small kitchen once all the people was given there food and drinks, then as they left I would clean the tables, sweep and gather trash. Then as the night would calm down I would help with showers, cleaning up the tv rooms, bathrooms, and bedrooms. I would have to get BPs on the patients for the doctors. I would have to implement curfews by cutting off TVs and having them go to there rooms. Once in there rooms I would do room checks where I would walk all the room and look to see if everyone was there and in bed. Once that was done I would work on my paperwork and then start to clean up the different TV rooms and restock the bathrooms. One the nights I would have to stay and work the night shift I would walk and do the room checks most of the night. Once it would get closer for the first shift I would go into the kitchen and prep drinks, greet the patients as they wake up and make sure all paperwork is done and ready.
I started as an assistant teacher with the early 2s class until the teacher went on maternity leave, then I took over as the lead teacher. I would open my class room and make sure my centers was clean and ready for free playas the kids came in. Once they had all come I would have breakfast brought to my room so I would prep the tables and as they eat I would sit with them. Once they was done I would clean the table and start bathroom changing/ potting time. After each child was changed/ potted I would clean the bathroom and begin our routine. We would play in centers, have a small circle time where we would read a book, work on the alphabet and colors. I also helped one student with his words and soon he was talking! After the circle time we would go outside to the playground, weather permitting, till the next potty time. Then come in and start pottes/ clean up/ drink break. Then we would go to the cafeteria for lunch, where I would sit them and then pass out there plates and cups. Once done I would gather the plates and cups, and clean the tables. Once back to the room I would pull out cots and blankets and begin potting before nap. For nap time I would sit with the ones that needed me to rub there backs till they fall asleep. Once asleep I would wright the daily papers for each child, do a deep clean of my bathroom, and clean toys. Some days I would also help the baby room or the toddler room. Then I was moved to pre-k till I left the center.
I was to open the center in the morning and close the center in the evening. When I opened I also had to start breakfast, put school age kids on the bus, and drive our bus of kids to a school. Once the kids are off to school I would take breakfast to the other class rooms and start cleaning up the kitchen. Once the rooms was down with breakfast I would gather it all and put away/ clean up and prep lunch. I would then leave and retune shortly before lunch ended to clean the kitchen and give breaks. Once the breaks was done I would get snack out and take over in the Pre-k room till closing. I would play with the kids as I would begin to shut down the room slowly. I would clean the bathrooms, sweep/ vacuum, stack the chairs, clean the tables, gather the trash, as the kids would leave I would clean and close centers and once all the children was gone I would mop. As well as cleaning the cots/ putting them away and laundry every friday. Soon I was able to move into the pre-k room as assistant then shortly became the lead teacher. As the lead teacher I would get to know my children and parents. As well as come up with lesson plans. I would try and make each day fun and new!
