- As a police officer for the city of Newport News I am required to uphold all Virginia state codes along with all Newport News city municipal codes and protect the citizens of the city. I am required to respond to calls for service to solve the problem at hand involving citizens within the city. I am required to be knowledgeable of department policy and state laws. I am required to be proficient in hand to hand combat, defensive tactics, shooting, taser deployment, O.C. spray deployment, first aid, and driving. I am required to be able to enter a situation of any kind and deescalate and defuse the issue while having comprehend information rapidly. I am also required to apprehend suspects both on foot and within a vehicle who may be fleeing, violent, or resisting. While working within Newport News Police Department, I have learned to launch my own investigations involving fraudulent credit card activity, operations to apprehend violent and wanted individuals, and manned several street crime suppression operations.
