1/16 wire flux core welding on both structural and schedule 40 pipe carbon steel. Occasional .045 wire 308L stainless steel flux core welding for dominion energy. 90% of the jobs I did were pipe stands.
.035 mig welding on various sheet metal thicknesses ranging from 18 gauge to 12 gauge on carbon steel either in flat, vertical down, overhead, and horizontal positions.
Frequent forklift operator
Frequent transportation of materials to and from the shop with work truck.
Frequent unloading and rigging of materials from tractor trailer trucks.
Responsible for interpreting blueprints, laying out materials and fitting frames that became platforms for the tie handler machine program for CSX.
Everyday involved laying out, using basic hand tools to square up tubes, pulling tape to find dimensions, operating power tools, forklift, overhead cranes, machinery to fabricate parts and then welding everything out in all positions using 1/16” wire flux core. I built 25 tie handler machines which took two weeks to build one machine. In between machines I built sub assembly parts which were usually tanks for storage spaces that mounted on top of the machines when finished. Finding hole centers, center of plates, making sure each tube was leveled, ensuring the cover plates that went over the frame were crossed squared, cutting with plasma/acetylene torches and all things alike. My main duties were to fabricator material, create a jig, lay out the frame, fit everything up, then finish up with 1/2” weld sizes.
Achieved various welding qualifications at the Newport News Shipyard welding school. As well I achieved level 1 welding inspection certification.
Responsible for welding on the 20/21 plat doing all the compartments welding all position fluxcore. Responsible for tig welding sockets/pipes for submarine and carrier programs. Experienced in tig welding stainless steel, copper nickel, and carbon steel.
Passed SMAW 2G, 3G, 4G X-ray tests. Passed FCAW 2G, 3G, 4G bend tests. Passed 2G MIG bend test.
Passed 6G TIG X-ray carbon steel qualification test (70-s/EB/CI ring).
Passed 6G TIG X-ray stainless steel qualification test (EB/CI ring).
Passed 6G TIG X-ray copper nickel qualification test (EB/CI ring).
Passed 6G TIG X-ray carbon steel qualification test (100-s/backing strap ring).
Passed 5F/4F thin wall carbon steel socket qualification tests. (0.083)
Passed 5F/4F thin wall stainless steel socket qualification tests. (0.083)
Passed 5F/4F thin wall copper nickel socket qualification tests. (0.083)
Passed 5F/4F thin wall stainless steel pulse TIG socket qualification tests. (0.083)
Achieved other qualifications such as firewatch safety and operation, torch hook up and operation, weld inspection level 1 in structural and pipe, sub safe programs, carbon arc gouging, fire extinguisher operation/safety, and performed preheat and interpass procedures during/before/and after the welding process. Efficient in tight space welding, and open work welding. At the shipyard my main goal was to work fast and always produce more each day in ever changing environments insuring welds met the quality of NAVSEA standards.
Responsible for fitting and welding carbon steel FCAW, SMAW, MIG and/or TIG process.
Responsible for laying out jobs, and fitting jobs before tacking/welding according to blueprints.
Operated plasma cutters, cutting torches, rosebud heating torches, band saws, press brakes, drills, shears, overhead cranes, iron worker machines and forklifts.
Basic understanding of hand tools, shop math, and ironwork/construction duties.
Also required to perform other miscellaneous tasks, as assigned by my foreman. Set up welding machines based on the job and troubleshooted issues if they came. Read and interpreted drawings/blueprints, to determine the specific welding and fitting requirements for each specific job. Ensu work is done safely and meets quality standards. Set up welding jigs for serial production runs. Operated machinery used in the production process, and assisted machine operators as needed.
Maintains clean and organized work area and follows all shop safety and housekeeping regulations. Maintained proper care of all equipment and facilities. Prepared finished products for shipment, final products, and items packed for shipment, manually or using a forklift and/or overhead crane. Performed general laborer duties as needed.
