I am seeking a position on VA Task force 2, of Hazmat Specialist. I have been employed with the City of Virginia Beach since 2023 and currently assigned to Ladder 16-C. Previously I was employed with the City of Hampton since 2004 and was assigned to Station 9 which is the Hazmat Team from approximatley 2009-2018. I have attended various training classes associated with Hazardous materials and its various modes of transport. I was familiar with the different monitor and detection meters, research manuals, the different levels of suits needed for entry and decontamination procedures used by the City Of Hampton at that time. My business of construction has given me a skills set to be able to understand building construction, and has made me familiar with different hand, gas and pneumatic tools to do just about any phase of construction. I feel I would be a great asset to the team bringing both past and current knowledge.
Performs duties as a firefighter assigned to firefighting. Performs daily preventive maintenance inspections on assigned vehicles at the beginning of each shift and after each response. I apply my knowledge of firefighting, hydraulics, forcible entry, ventilation, and EMS skills. Apply driver operator techniques in daily operations and incidents. Keep apparatus, equipment, tools, and firefighting ensemble in clean condition. Participate in drills and conduct and receive training on fire suppression and rescue operations relative to structural, vehicle and rope rescue. Also performs ventilation of structures also performs salvage and overhaul. Performs rescue of personnel and a variety of first aid measures to alleviate further injury and prepare the victim for transport to a medical facility. Participates in regular training and exercises as required.
