Other responsibilities include vendor management (maintenance contracts), determining the best approach for infrastructure projects, primary interface between the team and upper management (up to the Senior Director Level), act as the technical lead when necessary, mentoring junior level members of the staff, conduct performance evaluations, help team to attain 99.9% uptime, and finally monitor the team and server environment to see if the organization can realize cost reductions based on server consolidation projects. In addition beginning June 2003, responsibilities also grew to include the transition of 200+ NT/Win2k hosts to the Systems Administration team. The team is responsible for enterprise backups and the testing/implementation of the Disaster Recovery Strategy for the ARC. At the American Red Cross, the environment consists of numerous IBM AIX based, highly available systems that are designed to help the American Red Cross improve the way they conduct their business. Initial Responsibilities include providing support to the other groups in Operations from a server perspective, which includes not only the day-to-day tasks, but also helping to engineer solutions for each project’s needs. Responsibilities grew to include the position of Technical Lead for the Systems Administration Team (7 System Administrators in the team), the lead administrator on numerous projects, including the Manufacturing and Computer Standardization project (MACS) and the Armed Forces Emergency Services (AFES) project, and assisting the Systems Engineering group whenever possible. Responsibilities further grew to include lead engineer/administrator for a server migration project, which includes designing the plan to move, testing the plan and finally executing the plan for moving 16 systems from one platform to another, while upgrading the operating system and minimizing the impact to the customer. Technologies utilized at the American Red Cross include multiple platforms within IBM's RS/6000 product line, EMC's Intelligent Disk Storage Systems, and Storage Technology 9710, and 9714 tape libraries.

This involves restructuring the filesystems, updating the flare code on the Data General Clarion Disk Arrays, which were attached to the SPARCcenter 1000's, and finally, upgrading the operating system from Solaris 2.3 to Solaris 2.4. Assisted in the placement of all processes and procedures in HTML format on Bell Atlantic's Intranet for reference purposes.
