Umar Waheed

As a Hospitalist Medical Director oversee the day-to-day clinical operations of the hospitalist program while collaborating with analytics teams, hospital leadership, and care teams to ensure the highest level of patient safety, efficiency, quality of care, and value-driven outcomes. This role involves using data to inform decision-making and improve patient care processes while supporting a busy hospital environment.

• Provide clinical care for patients with a range of medical, neurological, surgical conditions

• Worked with BCM and BSLMC to develop Professional Service Agreement (PSA) to provide exclusive Hospitalist service at BSLMC hospital, CHI Woodlands, CHI SL and CHI Vintage Hospitals
• Created positions and recruited over 50 hospitalist team at BSLMC over last 7 years, 16 hospitalists teams at WL, 9 hospitalists each at St. Luke’s SL and Vintage
• Created APP hospitalists program at CHI hospitals (SL, WL and Vintage-2APPs at each facility)
• Created Physician Advisor program at BSLMC and similar programs are created at sister facilities
• Created pool of per diem Hospitalists to create back up system at each hospital that BCM serves
• Worked with Department of Medicine and Surgery to develop referral system and that leaded to significant volume growth and new service line development
• Referral system includes patients from all across Texas and adjacent states
• Introduced and implemented secured texting platform at BSLMC that is later on taken up by other CHI facilities and eventually all across common spirit programs (140 hospitals nationwide)
• Introduced and implemented college wide scheduling system (Multiple specialties and divisions)
• The schedule system was then integrated with answering service and secure text messaging system to develop easy communication and improve efficiency
• Recruitment of admin team, their work definition and role development
• Involved with recruitment of Hospital COO, CMO and division CMO
• Created and implemented Tele Health for Hospitalists at the time of initial COVID outbreak
• Creation and Implementation of COVID only Hospitalists teams
• Creation and implementation of Hospitalists based COVID ICU where hospitalists were primary with consult help from anesthesia and Pul CCM
• Except for intubation and Vent management, Hospitalists provided complete care of COVID ICU patients at the time of pandemic surges
• Represented as Baylor board member with its managed care contract with Cigna health spring
• Efficiency projects including but not limited to mid-week start of week and geographic rounding
• Standardization of note templates to decrease unnecessary variation and capture information in real time to reduce HAI

• Developed 4 leaders under my direct supervision and recruited and train site leaders to run community programs
